How important is your relationship with God to you? Do you value it? Do you take it seriously or is it something that you give casual attention to? Whatever your answer is-I can tell you that your relationship with God should have precedent above everything else and everybody else. Our families, spouses and children are very important to us. God instituted the family, so He definitely wants us to excel in that realm. There are other kinds of relationships such as:business, friends, acquaintances etc…Our relationship with God should trump all others.
When God and Adam communed in the Garden of Eden, they had a very special relationship until…well, you know the story. King David was a man, “the man” after God’s own heart. He sang to God. He worshiped God with his harp; he danced before Him and communed with Him un-tiringly. Now God and Moses~~ uhmm~~ how can I say this? They were “tight” and had an exceptionally close relationship. So much so~ they could have been yoked as “partners in crime.”
- They quarreled about whose the children of Israel belonged to…
- Moses contended with God that his stuttering was a dire excuse to disqualify him as a leader(Ex: 4:14-16).
- Later… they schemed together; as when God told Moses to go tell Pharoah to let His people go, all the while God had deliberately hardened Pharoah’s heart so that Moses met with great resistance (Ex 4:21). His grace grants us unmerited favor and His mercy prevents us from receiving the “shellacking” that is sometimes due to us. Thank you Lord for your grace and mercy. All three men had meaningful relationships with God and they did value them. They were all “tight” with Him. I like how God and Moses got down to the bare essentials of life and there was no holding back. Unlike Moses, I don’t want to take a long walk with God “off a short pier”(they actually went up the mountain). When God and I go for a walk, I want to come back with Him and when I stumble, He’ll pick me up and carry me.
Your chances of returning with God are assured when you purpose in your heart to obey Him. Establish a “tight” relationship with God and trust Him. He will take care of you.
